As first-year students officially report to senior high schools across Ghana, campuses have become scenes of heavy activity, with thousands of parents and their wards arriving to finalize placements and admissions. The nationwide reopening, which ushers in nearly 600,000 new students, has so far been generally smooth.
However, many schools have been characterized by long queues, crowded waiting areas, and tired faces. Parents who arrived early in the morning met already packed premises, with some reporting that others had been on campus since the previous day. Despite the online placement system, parents still had to endure hours of waiting — a situation many attributed to network and coordination challenges.
At some schools, the congestion stretched for hours, with families spending most of the day on campus before completing the process. Others expressed the need for schools to assign staggered reporting dates to ease the pressure and ensure a smoother experience for everyone.
Education officials have assured that the situation will normalize in the coming days as the admission window remains open and schools implement phased reporting schedules to manage the numbers.
