The Ghana Police Service has taken into custody six students of Aggrey Memorial Senior High School in connection with the alleged assault of a final-year student of Adisadel College in the Central Region.
In a statement released by the Central Regional Police Command on Tuesday, 24 February 2026, the incident was said to have occurred on Friday, 20 February 2026, around 3:30 p.m., shortly after the close of an inter-schools sports festival held at the Cape Coast Stadium.
According to police, the victim, Rexford Owusu-Ansah, was attacked at Pedu Junction while heading back to school with two companions. The suspects allegedly intercepted them to verify whether they were students of Adisadel College before launching the attack. While the two friends escaped, the victim was reportedly knocked down and severely beaten. The assailants are also accused of taking his iPhone 17 Pro Max, GH¢1,400, and his footwear.
School authorities of Aggrey Memorial Senior High School later handed over the six juvenile suspects to the Kotokuraba Police Station at about 7:30 p.m. that same evening. The injured student received initial care at the stadium clinic and was subsequently transferred to the Cape Coast Regional Hospital, where he was discharged on Sunday, 22 February 2026.
A medical report certified by a doctor revealed that the victim suffered a fracture near his right eye, leaving him unable to open it. His two friends have since informed police that they can identify the attackers.
The police condemned the incident and assured the public that legal procedures would be strictly followed. The statement was signed by Patrick Bentum, Acting Head of the Central Regional Police Public Affairs Unit, who emphasized that the juvenile suspects would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
