The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced the release of provisional results for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for school candidates.
How to Access Results
Results will be sent to schools through the Metropolitan/Municipal/District Directors of Education. Candidates who wish to check their results directly can also visit the Council’s official website at www.waecgh.org.
Examination at a Glance
- 620,243 candidates sat for the examination—304,415 males and 315,828 females
- 20,789 schools participated
- 2,237 examination centres were used nationwide
- 3,601 candidates were absent
- Test accommodations were provided for candidates with special needs, including 136 with visual impairment, 282 with hearing needs, and 510 with other accommodation requirements
Action Taken on Examination Malpractice
Following investigations into irregularities detected during the examination and script marking, the 37th Meeting of the Final Awards and Examiners’ Appointment Committee for the BECE—held on Tuesday, July 21, 2026—approved the following sanctions:
- 496 candidates had subject results cancelled
- 105 candidates had their entire results cancelled
- 119 candidates had subject results withheld
- 48 candidates had their entire results withheld
In addition, subject results belonging to 2,722 candidates from 229 schools have been withheld pending further scrutiny. A decision on whether these results will be released or cancelled is expected by August 31, 2026.
Checking the Status of Withheld or Cancelled Results
Candidates affected by a cancellation or withholding of results can find out why by visiting irreg.waecgh.org and selecting the “withheld/cancelled” button on the homepage. This will redirect them to the irregularity and investigations page, which explains the reason for the action taken and, where applicable, the next steps.
Heads of schools and proprietors can follow the same process using their results-listing logins to check the status of their candidates’ results.
Caution Against Fraud
WAEC has cautioned candidates, parents, and other stakeholders to be wary of fraudsters offering to “upgrade” results for a fee. The Council stressed that its results are secure and can be authenticated through official channels.
WAEC extended its appreciation to the Ministry of Education, the Ghana Education Service, security agencies, heads of schools, supervisors, invigilators, examiners, and all other stakeholders who contributed to the successful conduct of the examination and the release of results.
